Healthy Habits Beyond Food

It is 8:35 Sunday night, and I'm waiting for my kids to go to bed....thinking about the changes I'm making right now and changes that need to be made.

One of the changes I made a few months ago was going 90% off of social media.

I still keep a Facebook personal profile to stay in touch with family and friends overseas, but even that has been so limited, that I'm rarely ever there.

One of my "black holes" is YouTube, though.

Much as I want, I still seem to be on YouTube way too much.

I don't watch as much as I listen - like a podcast. But this week I'm wanting to lower that and keep it low -- like Facebook.

Too much digital noise raises dopamine, causes a stress response, and can lead to depression. Not only that, it's harmful spiritually.

I want to improve in this area.

Another change I've started making is getting my 10k steps in.

My dear friend challenged me by talking about her 10k step record -- and it reminded me how years ago I had a good streak of 10k+ steps a day.

And so the past 4 days I've reached my 10k.

It's not been easy.

I've had to work hard.

My legs HUUURT!

But it's great.

Note: 10/14 I was sick and spent most of the day resting

Lastly, I want to be more consistent with my supplements.

When I have these elements in place, I feel my very best. I will say that the past several days I've felt better than I have in a while.

But health isn't just diet.

It is a whole-person affair.

Spirit - this is the most important place to be healthy. Our spirit is eternal - this will be our greatest investment.

Soul - this is also so important because soul-health impacts our body. Mind, will and emotions - these need to come under the control of the Holy Spirit

Body - our physical health does impact our mind and emotions.

So, I sign off tonight. Getting to bed early enough to get 7 hours of sleep (still not enough, but more than I've been getting lately), and then tomorrow adding in more healthy habits.
